A story of a romantic relationship that is realistic in it’s spanning of the years, Together, Apart begins by highlighting how modern London life requires a level of openness in order to meet someone; from the moments on ‘The Tube’ to ‘The Festival’ you can relate – busy world, busy people, the mystery when you don’t hear from someone. How do you figure out what someone’s about, what the situation is?

As the relationship develops, the story tackles the issue of ‘forever.’ Forever doesn’t come easily. One minute it’s certain, the next you’re shocked when you find yourself wondering if maybe it isn’t, that maybe you’ll have to jump through this modern, busy world’s hoops all over again just to get back to the beginning, just to start afresh. It can all feel so overwhelming, and Together, Apart explores this well. Life is complex and it throws your way whatever it wishes without your consent; following the characters along their journey in this story is, therefore, not just overwhelming – it’s inspiring. It shows us why it’s worth putting in all that hard work to realise your ‘happily ever after’.

A love story that covers a lifespan, sad and sweet

The two-words sentences give this story a great intensity, as if stripping away extra words had forced the author to retain only the essence of her character's feelings. It feels like watching an entire lifetime and relationship fast forward, unique and yet similar to many other. I was reminded of the beginning of Pixar's movie Up (and it moved me in the same way).

The dark side of living in a fractured family is explored in a variety of malevolent and sometimes entertaining ways in this debut story collection. Fulton introduces his peculiar family motif in the first story, "Braces," which deals with the plight of a young boy who becomes a pawn in his parents' bitter divorce when his father tries to get him to reveal the location of the vintage Mustang that his mother has hidden away to sell and pay for the boy's dental work. That entry hits the literary bull's-eye, but much of what follows is fragmented, underdeveloped and gratuitously strange. There are several contestants, but the award for most bizarre story is copped by "The Troubled Dog," about a woman driving with her two sons through the Utah desert. She rams another car, and kidnaps and robs the injured driver because he looks like her ex-husband. "Clean Away," depicting a harrowing evening in the life of a man who looks like Barry Manilow, runs a close second; the sensibility of both stories lies somewhere between Denis Johnson and David Lynch. The quality of the writing matches the inventiveness of the plotting in the title piece, in which a teenage girl uses her position as a photographer for the high school yearbook to take macabre photos of wounded cheerleaders and a driving instructor whose wife has just left him. Here Fulton demonstrates noteworthy talent, despite a lack of consistency that weakens the collection as a whole. Yet this is a good introduction to this convention-busting new writer whose first novel is due next year. These stories present teenagers coping in a world where adults typically fall short as role models. Growing up in the American West, reared in Mormon or Catholic households, Fulton's young characters strive to reconcile the faith they've inherited to the morally murky situations that arise, such as divorced parents, sex, and death. How rare to see depictions of teenagers with a conscience! Several of the stories explore classically masculine themes--e.g., reckless fathers who test their sons by placing them in physical or emotional jeopardy--but the more interesting stories feature female protagonists. The title novella traces a dark year in the life of 15-year-old Rachel as she anticipates her mother's death from cancer. During this time, Rachel's eyes latch on to all the world's ugliness and she turns, by her own admission, mean. Fulton writes honestly and hopefully about Rachel and his other sad characters. An Unforgettable New Story Collection

Once you pick up Fulton's intense and searching story collection you won't want to put the book down. He carries both his readers and characters deep into the moving realms of interior motivation. Fulton occupies voices ranging from a 77 year old woman, to a young boy, to an adolescent girl with startling grace. Though some of the stories deal with eerie material, his clean prose always absorbs and convinces. My personal favorites include "Iceland," "Liars," and (of course) the incredible title novella "Retribution."

Retribution is a beautifully written collection of stories. It has been a while since I have read such lucid prose. The title story is my favorite, but each has its own flavor and virtues. I hope there will be another book soon.

Fine Debut by John Fulton

As a mystery author with my first novel in its initial release and an educator who occasionally teaches short story writing within the California State University system, I want to praise John Fulton's RETRIBUTION. It is a collection of short stories with varied subject matter, diverse settings, and a variety of themes. While one repeatedly hears about how the art of short story writing has died, books like RETRIBUTION prove such statements are false. Short story writing is alive, well, and going strong. This book should be closely read by any individual searching for top-notch contemporary short stories.

Ruby Foxx's "Stacy and Her Stepdad Collection Two: Forbidden Taboo & Menage Collection" is a set of two naughty stories. As I said before, I'm usually not into the taboo sub-genre, but this doesn't feel over the line taboo-wise. A fast and erotic read. In my opinion, if you read both collections in a row, the sex seems a little formulaic (they do the same acts in the same order too much). I'm intrigued by the fact that this author is supposedly the alter-ego of a best-selling author. Such an interesting story about the author is included with the stories!

Perfect sex guide.

It is a guide to become a great lover. Failure in bed causes most of family problems. Stan says that good sex is not about orgasm. There are a lot to learn about sex. This book helps to meet our partner in bed with confidence, to understand response of girl during love making and to lead a successful session with a girl. According to Stan, each response has its own meaning. We should be able to understand the difference between moan with pleasure and groan with pain. Do love today as you were made for each-other.

I ask my wife's opinion every time I read what sounds like a nice idea from the book and she agreed with everything. Some of these I have already done but I didn't really have the chance to ask her feedback. Having read this book and discussing it with her became a special bonding time between us, though she still gets shy on some of the topics. All in all, this book has really offered great and helpful tips. I recommend this to all guys out there who'd want to impress their partners in bed.

You see I am trying to study for the praxis after getting my Masters degree in Special Education and having a Bachelors in Business Management so l am pretty much teaching myself this basic material. The cards are so detailed and so helpful in creating a study and hopefully a recall framework for me, that I am grateful to have stumbled across this fantastic system purely by accident. Taking its title from George Orwell's 1984, this anthology of 12 stories exploits the theme of transgressive and societally forbidden sexual acts in various fictional future dystopias. The turn-ons here supposedly involve illicitness or actual illegality, but the authors don't reach too far into the speculative for their subject matter. Instead, they tend to take what is currently taboo to one degree or another and place it in a mildly futuristic setting. The result is usually effective erotica, but less than satisfying SF. Standout stories are the ones that work both as sex and SF (M. Christian's "Slate," for example, wherein a human female plays the role of a robotic sex-toy); employ a hot but humorous tongue-in-cheek (and other orifices) approach (Simon Sheppard's take on outlawed fleshly encounters vs. virtual unreality in "Blackout"); or explore an extended sociosexual metaphor (in "Nudes Ascending a Staircase," Renee M. Charles does a riff on "what if all erotic art were really banned?"). Relying on reprints for half of the material strengthens the book as a whole, but readers of the now well-established subgenre of SF/fantasy-based erotica will find a lot of familiar material. Still, while it doesn't really go where no anthology has gone before, this is one collection of erotica that aims to stimulate the mind as well as the body, and succeeds. (May)

Circlet scores again!

Another collection of stories from Circlet Press. This collection focuses on varying types of "forbidden" sexual relationships. All of the stories are set in the future. One reason why I didn't rate the collection higher was that six of the tweleve stories in the collection have appeared in other Circlet collections. Still this collection is worth it for the rest of the stories. If you like erotica that is both interesting and hot try any title from Circlet Press.
