Nice addition to/complementary with the Princeton Review's "Best 379 Colleges" book

"Colleges That Pay You Back - 2015 Edition" (2015 publication; 463 pages) is from the same publisher (The Princeton Review) which brings a number of other college-search books, including the excellent "The Best 379 Colleges" (beware, that number changes yearly). So why the need for this new book? Two things that I can surmise: (1) the "Best Colleges" book, which originally started out at 250, is creeping towards 400 now, and in need of a trim, frankly; and (2) given the cost of attending college, it has become more paramount than ever for colleges to demonstrate that going there is a good "bang-for-the-buck" or "return on investment".

The book opens with a number of handy lists bringing us "Great Schools for the Highest Paying Majors" (looks like any kind of engineering major is the way to go, but in particular Petroleum Engineering, with its eye-popping median starting salary of $103,000). Other fun lists include the Top 50 Colleges That Pay back, Best Schools for Internships, etc. After that we get the School Profiles, and if you are familiar with the "Best Colleges" book, it will immediately look very familiar. Each school gets 2 pages, divided into several charts, data and subject matters. I carefully looked at the entries of a couple of schools that appear in both the "Best Colleges" and this new book, and what I found was that the popular "Survey Says" segment from the "Best Colleges" book is no longer, but instead we get the all-important "Career Information from Payscale.com", where the editors post the ROE ("Return on Investment"), based on such factors as median starting salary, median mid-career salary, % alumni who recommend school, % alumni with high job meaning and satisfaction, etc. I cannot independently verify to what degree these ratings are real or bogus, but based on the high reputation of The Princeton Review, I'll go with it unless someone demonstrates these ratings are bogus. I am most familiar with colleges in Ohio (where I live and my oldest went to college) and DC (where I and my youngest went), and it's hard to argue with the colleges that made the cut (such as Miami University, with an ROE of 89, and GW, with an ROE of 85, just to name those). I am impressed with the fact that the tuition and the room & board numbers have been updated again from the most recent "Best Colleges", which came out just last July. I look at those numbers, and just shake my head in disbelief (GW, which I attended in the mid-80s, now costs $64,745/yr... say what?!?).

Bottom line: I am finding this to be a nice addition in the Princeton Review catalog of college-search books, and it works in particularly well in combination with the "Best Colleges" book. This is not the first book that anyone new to the college-search process will want to consult, but once you have narrowed your list of top target colleges, and assuming they make the cut of these 200 best value colleges as profiled here, this will be essential reading. "Colleges That Pay You Back" is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Useful in Defining Value and Identifying Appropriate Colleges

College costs are extremely important. However, we often look at tuition and assume that a college with a lower cost will be more economical than a college with a much higher tuition. This book shows that this is not necessarily true and identifies colleges that are good values. Because of this unique approach and other information in the book such as the difference in acceptance rates between Early Admission and regular candidates, I found this book very useful.

Used as a starting point for every college search to help you sort through the Best Values. Ten are listed as best values because they are free. Others because of the bang for your buck like Harvard and Princeton. The two that my boys are interested in were there as was the information I was looking for.

Practice tests are a great study tool.

The practice questions are very helpful and covers a wide range of social studies material. I have been using these practice tests as a study tool, in addition to the study guide that was written. I have also watched some of the short video presentations that was outlined in the study guide links page. Sometimes it's easier to understand material by watching it as opposed to reading about it. I think it would be a great idea if there were videos for all the topics covered for the test.

Lyrical, thoughtful, and entertaining.

A civil war rages in Hell over the publication of a book that tells the true story of love between a demon and human. Demons and humans fighting together against Hell's overlords to create something new... a place where they can be free to love each other.

Set in the Biblical Hell, this novella is an autobiography of the protagonist, Frank Lyre (as told in third-person). Frank, a man sentenced to eternal damnation for being an atheist, witnesses the descent of God in to the realm of demons, he comes to understands something very big is happening. When he sees his former wife is among God's entourage, it is a bittersweet reunion as he is torn between his growing love for a demon who has shown him favor, and a chance to make it into Heaven.

Beautiful Hell is not the book you think it's going to be. It isn't preachy or anti-religious or blasphemous, and in fact, leaves religion out of the picture for the most part, showing instead, a 'human' side to EVERY SINGLE character in the book. It was poetic and extremely thoughtful, even during the scenes of violence and sex. In my opinion, the author took great care to create the world of The Creator (of the story) and what steps The Creator might take to understand and quell a rebellion in Hell.

Great entertainment from the author of PUNKTOWN.

One Hell of a Book (sorry,had to say it)

From time to time somebody will say, "what sort of cruel God would send unbaptized babies to Hell?" This author took that idea and ran with it. This book, one of 4 that explores Hell, gives a detailed and thoughtful look at Hell and by the end you will be sympathizing with (some) demons. The God in this Hell/Hades series regards creation with about as much compassion as we regard Sims characters. The book is so well written (all 4 are) that by the end of the series I felt a little guilty for ever enjoying The Sims. After all, what if they had feelings that we just disregarded because we created them.

Intriguing, thought provoking story. I don't know if I can say that I enjoyed this tale but it was a good read. The author's stories about the residents of hell are very good. I enjoy them more than his punktown tales, but that's my personal preference.

About the Author
Dee Ernst loved reading at an early age and decided to become a writer, though she admits it took a bit longer than she expected. After the birth of her second daughter at the age of forty, she committed to giving writing a real shot. She loved chick lit but felt frustrated by the younger heroines who couldn t figure out how to get what they wanted, so she writes about women like herself older, more confident, and with a wealth of life experience. In 2012, her novel Better Off Without Him became an Amazon bestseller. Now a full-time writer, Dee lives in her home state of New Jersey with her family, a few cats, and a needy cocker spaniel. My Favorite in the Series

By far my favorite in the series! I love that the office antics are taken outside of the office, first to "The Dungeon" and then into a picturesque setting, worthy of the Playboy mansion. Lucy's sexual encounters and romps will not disappoint and Cliff's vivid writing style, as usual, will leave you panting and hot. But what I really like is the growing relationship between Eric and Lucy, and Lucy's determination to make him hers. Will she succeed? It certainly appears she knows exactly what to do to get under his skin. Looking forward to the next installment.

What Lucy Wants, Lucy Gets

This and Part 5 are basically a two-part conclusion to the series as Lucy heads off for a hedonistic weekend at Eric and Clark's Hampton estate. Naturally, there's a lot of hot sex, but Lucy and Eric can't quite work out their feelings for each other. They both want sex with as many people as possible, but they also want each other to themselves. How to solve this dilemma?

This is turning into an erotic romance, but I don’t mind

So over the course of the previous books, it looks like Lucy can’t help herself and falls for the bad guy Eric who refuses to commit. She agrees to an open concept, but her dirty little mind is more devious than that. Love the first scene at the fetish shop. Very hot.
