Characters and Sailing Boats

Voices is a great book to pick up and read one story at a time, giving yourself time to absorb the meaning of the story and the reasons behind writing it. I also recommend this volume highly to anyone who sails. I am not a sailor, but I vicariously lived like one in some of Gerald's best stories set on sailboats. It seems like being on a sailing holiday is a good time for character study. And Gerald also has a formidable way with words.

The stories of Gerald Patrick are a treat to read. Each is unique, yet they have a common foundation highlighting the author's values which are primarily moral. Honesty, truth and courage under pin each of them and, while seldom dramatic, the lesson is clear. This is especially evident in "VOICES" which is a true masterpiece.

If ever a collection of short stories deserves to be on your bookshelf " Voices and Other Stories" is it. There is meaningful insight into the human condition. We all have our favorites. Mine is "A Drop of Blood," very moving.
