Six Steps to College Success: Learning Strategies for STEM Students

I was happy to add Six Steps to College Success: Learning Strategies for STEM Students to my collection of professional educational books. STEM is a an acronym referring to the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The idea is that the success of students in the four areas of STEM is linked to the future success of the United States, which has placed more emphasis on the four areas of achievement for students. As an educator, classes are offered to train teachers in promoting these four areas of education and integrating them into all fields of study. Six Steps to College Success: Learning Strategies for STEM Students gives college level students guidelines to increase success in the four fields of STEM.

This book rocks!!

Six Steps to College Success is similar to a six-week workout regimen. If you are consistent and follow it closely, you will see long-lasting results. Six Steps is encouraging yet convicting. As I read it, I saw that there were many things that I was doing correctly and provided me with ways I could improve on them. On the other side, I was convicted of various habits and thought processes that were unproductive and flat-out wrong. Some of them I knew were bad habits; others I was surprised to find out were not so good. Just like any workout plan, it is rough in the beginning as you see what all you have to work on but it is encouraging when you begin to see results. With this book the results can be felt sooner rather than later.
This book covers basically every common hindrance faced by college and even graduate students. Are you a worrier? There is a section on that. Procrastinator? They cover that too! Various note-taking types, which type of note is best for what course material, ways to improve your notes, and managing your schedule are all covered in depth in this book.
Invaluable is not a strong enough descriptor for this book. Parents, this is a perfect graduation gift for your children and will help ensure success. Students, skip the McDonalds for a while and purchase this book. Your GPA and your future self will thank you!
